Built by the Tai clan during Qing dynasty, but the exact year is uncertain. Among the relics are a bell cast in 1747 (12
th year of the reign of Qianlong), and main plague above the main entrance, with “Tin Hau Ancient Temple” written on it, and the accompanying pair of couplets were erected in the 7
th year of the reign of Tongzhi. The Chinese Temple Ordinance was enacted in 1928, putting all temples in Hong Kong under the management of Chinese Temple Committee, but Causeway Bay Tin Hau Temple is an exception, which is still managed by the Tai clan.
Tin Hau Temple is a 2 Hall building with 2 side halls. The roof ridge is decorated by 2 dragons scrambling for a pearl, with dragon fish at both ends. The “cut-and-paste shard works” of some decorations and the couplets in the temple are a rarity in Hong Kong.
