The Social Welfare Department has, through a number of social welfare organizations, set up at the district level various elderly centres for the elderly and their carers. These include Social Centres for the Elderly at the early stage, Neighbourhood Elderly Centres developed later on, as well as District Elderly Community Centres launched in recent years. The scope of service provided by each type of elderly centre is different as follows:
