Located at the site of the former Hong Kong International Airport, known as Kai Tak Airport, Kai Tak Sports Park was officially opened on 1 March 2025, after 6 six years of construction since on 23 April 2019. After the old airport ceased operations in 1998, the Hong Kong Government decided to transform this historical site into a modern sports and recreation hub. This initiative aims to support the development of sports among young people, and extend it to the entire community, while preserving the historical elements of Kai Tak Airport.
As the largest sports infrastructure project in Hong Kong’s history, the Park adopted the most advanced architectural techniques in its construction. The world-class
facilities in Kai Tak Sports Park include a stadium which can accommodate 50,000 spectators and is equipped with a retractable roof and movable turf allowing versatile use of the venue. The multi-purpose indoor arena and outdoor artificial turf football fields are not only to host international sporting events but also to provide Hong Kong athletes more opportunities to compete locally. Beyond sports, Kai Tak Sports Park offers a variety of entertainment facilities, making it a premier destination for major cultural and entertainment events. By attracting visitors from around the world, it enhances Hong Kong’s global image and serves as a new driving force for the city’s economic growth.
The park's diverse sports facilities and comprehensive amenities are open to the public, with a year-round lineup of
programs designed to encourage people of all ages to actively participate in physical activities and incorporate sports into their daily lives. Whether professional athlete or casual sports enthusiast, Kai Tak Sports Park provides the perfect venue for sports training, recreational activities and cultivating a healthy lifestyle, enhancing overall physical fitness, fostering community well-being and urban development.
