Over the past year, ‘Mirror’ is everywhere in Hong Kong. Their group and individual photos are printed on big and small billboards as well as buses in the streets. A variety of luxury brands, including cosmetics and smart phones, have invited this local Cantopop boy band to be their spokespersons.
It is really incredible that their fans consist of three different generations, ranging from children to middle-aged adults. Whenever these supporters see huge posters of their idols, they will pose and take stunning photos immediately. ‘Mirror’ is indeed the limelight of the show biz.
In fact, each era has its own icon(s). While the 12 young heartthrobs are catching the attention of the entire city, I suddenly remember an iconic local band of the 70s – the Wynners. Youngsters of that era should know this band very well. Though the 5 members come from different backgrounds, they have a strong passion for music. All of them are good at singing and playing different musical instruments: Alan Tam and Kenny Bee, lead vocals; the latter and Bennett Pang, lead guitarists; Danny Yip, bassist and Anthony Chan, drummer.
Apart from singing popular love songs, Wynners has also written a lot of masterpieces about inspiring stories and friendships. For example, the lyrics ‘unity makes things work out’ reminds youngsters to work hard together while ‘friends will last forever no matter how the world has changed’ and ‘wish everyone will laugh happily’ bring more positivity to life.
The 5 musicians have been friends for almost 50 years. Though they work separately at times, they still get together to organise reunion concerts once every 5 or 10 years. Apparently, this evergreen band has proved to us genuine friendships are long-lasting.
Through Wynners, we understand that lifelong friends are as precious as our families. Let us treasure them.
