This is a 1 to 2 star trail, with a few steps and slopes. Walk along the shadow of green leaves, you will find wild flowers everywhere and not too muddy paths. You will end up sweating a bit. In other words, you will find this trail acceptable under sunshine or after the rain.
To get there, take bus no. 9 at the bus terminal at Shau Kei Wan MTR station. When the bus turns into Shek O Road, you should get off at the Cape Collinson stop. Go up the steps by the side and you will see the path heading to Chai Wan direction, and leading you into the Shek O Country Park. Walk slowly and chat with your friends, it is an easy route and can be completed within 2 hours. The total length of the path is about 3km. It is located in the crossroad of Pottinger Peak, through which you can go either to Big Wave Bay, Cape Collinson Road, Dragon’s Back and Chai Wan etc. Some like to take bus no. 9 to Big Wave Bay and climb up the mountain. I personally think that the steep steps uphill are difficult and no good for knee joints.
On the way you can overlook Chai Wan, Tseung Kwan O, High Junk Peak, Tung Lung Island and Shek O Big Wave Bay coastline. Although there are pavilions, I do not want to stay long as there are mosquitos around. I prefer a place with an open landscape for a short break.
There is a viewing platform on the hillside. If you look to the east, you can see the area alongside Shek O Bay. If the sky is clear, this is a good spot to watch the sunrise.
Afterwards, go down the hill via the Leaping Dragon Trail for the Siu Sai Wan Promenade where there is a clean public toilet. Let’s go through the stadium to the restaurants in Island Resort and get a little rest! Island Resort is also where the Sui Sai Wan bus terminal is, where everyone can find their way home.
