The Lau Shui Heung Reservoir is located within the Pat Sin Leng Country Park in Fanling, New Territories. The flat terrain forms a perfect mirror surface reflecting the beautiful blue sky and verdant hills surrounding the reservoir. The water is also surrounded by white melaleuca and bald cypress, some of which turn fetching shades of yellow and orange during autumn/winter. The locals sometimes call the reservoir “the sky mirror in Hong Kong”. Its fresh greenery has a calming, stress-relieving effect on our soul. The pond itself is also home to many species of fish and insects. You may wish to take some time to pay attention to the ecology and surrounding environment during your visit.
To go to the Lau Shui Heung Reservoir, you can take the green minibus route number 52B at MTR Fanling Station Exit A or the green taxi (which costs about $50). Alight at the roundabout of Pak Sin Leng Country Park at the junction of Hok Tau Road and Lau Shui Heung Road, then walk along the Lau Shui Heung Road for about 15 minutes to reach the entrance of the park.
Although majority of the route is under shades, there is a flight of stairs at the beginning and the downhill route also has a small incline.
The easiest way to leave the Lau Shui Heung Reservoir is to follow the same route and return to the junction of Hok Tau Road and Lau Shui Heung Road to wait for the minibus route number 52B. Once you reach the Hok Tau Reservoir, there is a flat concrete road leading to Hok Tau Road where you can take the minibus back to Fanling MTR station. If you would like to have a little hike, you could take the Lau Shui Heung Nature Trail towards Hok Tau Reservoir and leave at Hok Tau Road. The walk is approximately 4km and takes 1.5 hours. You will pass the Wilson Trail Section 9 alongside and have a glimpse of the high-rise buildings in Shenzhen and Pak Sin Leng mountain range.
However please note that the Lau Shui Heung Reservoir can become quite busy during weekends. It might take longer to catch the minibus or taxi. There is also no kiosk around the Lau Shui Heung Reservoir area. If needed, you may get all the necessary supplies in Fanling. Last but not the least, please take all your belongings with you and do not leave any rubbishes in the country park.
