I found some old photo albums and letters while doing the annual spring cleaning at home. I have never thought of throwing them away They were memories of my days at primary school, secondary school and university. I plan to read all the letters again after retirement.
Browsing through the content, I felt so warm. The handwriting reminded me of the senders. All of them were my childhood buddies and schoolmates. Some of them are still keeping in touch with me. Though I could not finish reading all the letters, I would leave the rest for another day. Thinking of these long-time friends made me so happy. After reminiscing the past, it is time to plan for the future. Reaching 60 is going to be a turning point for me. Apart from applying for the JoyYou Card to enjoy the travel discount, what else can be done?
Suddenly, I remember May who talked about goal setting at a sharing session for the 60+. She recollected her work life was geared towards setting and achieving goals. The pace of life was fast but substantial at that time. After her retirement, May did not have to set any more work-related goals. She slowed down and just did whatever she wanted to for the 1st two years. At the beginning, she enjoyed the free lifestyle. It was when May felt she lost her sense of direction that she decided to start setting goals and thinking about how to achieve them again. This time, the focus is on her family/relatives, health and friends, e.g. to ensure her family can be healthier, she cooks more frequently at home. Gradually, May finds her life more substantial.
After listening to May, I agree that setting clear goals and planning how to achieve them are important for all ages. To boost my determination, I bought an exquisite calendar planner and wrote down what I want to do two days before the new year. My goal is to accomplish all the tasks that should have been done sometime ago. In fact, we can set goals at different stages of life. They are like a compass that guides us to move forward. With goals, life can be more meaningful.
May everyone maintain good health and achieve their goals in 2022!
