With the widespread of the Omicron variant, our dream about the pandemic coming to an end this year shattered. Every day, the news reports on the number of infectious cases as well as how our livelihood and the economy have been affected. The whole city has created an atmosphere filled with tension. During this period of time, we really need to lead an active life and spread positive vibes to encourage our families and friends.
Recently, I found many photos of delicious homemade dishes on my sister-in-law’s Instagram and learnt that she has fallen in love with cooking. Apart from reading healthy cookbooks, she also watches cooking shows online. My sister-in-law told me she stays at home most of time to practise social distancing. At the beginning, she cooked because she wanted to kill time. Gradually, she realised it is healthier to eat homemade food. She tries out different dishes every day. When she sees my brother enjoying all the scrumptious food, she gains a sense of satisfaction and feels grateful that she has developed a new hobby. My sister-in-law hopes that her photos on IG can bring joy to others, too.
Kitty, my former schoolmate, has a very active social life. In the past, she only met up with her granddaughter during the holidays. Owing to the pandemic, Kitty has stopped all her activities. Instead, she communicates more frequently with her granddaughter using video calls at home. Her daughter and son-in-law also chat with her at times. The family has communicated more often than before. When Kitty shared her video call photos on our group chat, we could feel her excitement.
Recently, Susanna, my friend shared her life over the past year on Facebook. Though we have not been in touch for a while, I could really feel her positive vibes after reading her reflection. She does not complain about her busy life but feels grateful for her accomplishments. She did not lose hope when she was sick. Instead, she kept reminding herself about the importance of good health and would rearrange her work schedule. She does not grumble when she cannot not come back to Hong Kong for a visit. She just hopes that she can return when the pandemic has ended.
The more difficult life is, the more we need to be optimistic. Let’s spread positive vibes through various online platforms so that more people can face challenges with ease.
